MY OWN FAT CAMP

One summer a long time ago, when I was working at the college cafeteria and conference services, two conference groups happened to be there at the same time. They both stayed in the dormitories, ate at the cafeteria, and used other college facilities for their activities. One group was a high-school cheerleading camp and the other was a weight-loss camp for young girls. It seemed so unfair that the "Fat Camp Girls" had to watch the skinny, beautiful future cheerleaders eat all the foods that they were forbidden, but maybe it wasn't such a bad thing after all for these two groups to observe each other.

It was while I was working there at the college that I lost a bunch of weight and became physically fit by riding my bicycle over 36 miles a day. And it was also the time that I became aware of a new concept circulating around — about whole foods and vegetarians.

Fast forwarding to today, I am embarking on my own weight loss diet to lose the final 22 pounds of fat that has accumulated around my middle. And I plan to do it slowly, over a period of 18 months.
